COVID-19 symptoms can swiftly evolve into significant, potentially life-threatening symptoms, according to experts.
While the majority of persons with COVID-19 will have mild or no symptoms, doctors warn that even those with modest symptoms should watch for worsening signs that could lead to catastrophic complications. "This condition can cause modest symptoms in some people, who then recover in a few days or a week and go on to live a normal life." They can, on the other hand, become ill before or after formal diagnosis, recover somewhat, then become gravely ill 7 to 10 days later, in what we believe is due to immunological dysregulation, or the cytokine storm we've all heard about. The immune system's overreaction is referred to as a cytokine storm. In respiratory diseases like COVID-19 and severe acute respiratory syndrome, they're a prevalent complication (SARS).
When the virus that causes COVID-19 infects the lungs, the immune system reacts by sending immune cells to the lungs to fight the virus. The immune system overreacts in some persons, leading to the activation of additional immune cells and hyper-inflammation. This has the potential to be fatal."It usually starts as a cold or is asymptomatic when people have it." Then it can worsen and lead to pneumonia, which is the most common cause of illness. This normally happens on the 6th or 7th day of the sickness.
Gradually becoming more severe
Symptoms might occur 2 to 14 days after contact with the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
These signs and symptoms include:
Experts believe there is currently no method to anticipate whether a person's symptoms would worsen from mild to severe, however risk factors may make this more likely. This virus, as well as the infection it generates, appears to be quite unexpected. We're all familiar with the classic symptoms - fever, cough, and shortness of breath — but we're seeing an increasing number of unusual manifestations.
Age, diabetes, hypertension, lung disease, and immunosuppression are all major risk factors, but this disease process and severe sickness can strike anyone, and we have seen it happen.
