Bad Breath - Don’t Let It Stifle Your Social Life

Stinky breath – one of the most distressing and socially embarrassing problems!

Do you ever wonder why your breath is bad?  This is a very common problem and the answer is pretty simple. Bacteria – Yes, it’s the main culprit for your bad breath. Bad breath is caused when bacteria break down food and release sulfur which is what that creates the unpleasant smell. Delving a little deep, it is noted that there are some conditions in which these bacteria thrive and which we enable involuntarily in our diet or lifestyle. It may be the intake of garlic, onion, and spicy foods, not drinking enough water, tobacco usage, skipping breakfast or insufficient oral hygiene practices.

It may seem surprising that you may not know if you have bad breath. But how do you know that your breath smells bad?  If you are not sure that you have a bad breath problem just take a simple breath test. Remember, blowing into your palms of your hands and sniffing to check is no way effective. It doesn’t always work. The best way is to ask someone you can trust, maybe your spouse or family member to check out your breath odor and let you know. If no one is around to help you out, just lick your wrist, let it dry, and then smell it. If your wrist smells bad, then definitely you have bad breath.

If you are you looking for a remedy to free yourself from bad breath once and for all you have come to the right place. The following tips will help you fight bad breath and keep your mouth healthy too.

  1. Take brushing and flossing seriously. Make sure to brush your teeth after every meal to get rid of leftover particles stuck in between your teeth.
  2. Don’t forget your tongue. Clean your tongue as you clean your teeth. Your tongue can trap a great deal of bacteria that cause the foul smell. So, make sure to clean and scrub your tongue also.
  3. A dry mouth is a breeding ground for bacteria. Drink plenty of water to flush out the bacteria and the food particles off your mouth.
  4. To stimulate saliva flow, eat lots of acidic fruits such as oranges.  Go for raw crunchy foods. They can help clean your teeth and clear off plaque.
  5. Quit smoking, as it can cause dry mouth, which can also lead to foul-smelling breath.
  6. Be conscious of the foods that you eat. Cut down foods that contain a lot of garlic, onions, or spices. Go easy on coffee, alcohol, and sugary snacks, too. Ditch the high protein foods like cheese, milk and meat.
  7. Try the age-old remedy - oil pulling the act of swishing oil in your mouth for a few minutes. This can kill harmful bacteria and reduce bad mouth odor.
  8. Chew sugarless gum. It stimulates saliva secretion and makes your breath smell good
  9. Get your teeth cleaned by your dentist regularly - preferably every six to twelve months.

Are you tired of using breath freshener products every time to hide your unpleasant mouth odor? No worries!

The above tips can help you treat bad breath and have a clean, fresh breath every day for the rest of your life. But despite your best efforts, if you still suffer from bad breath it could be due to a medical issue. Yes, persistent bad breath is definitely a sign that something is not right in your body. So call 044-44510510 and fix an appointment with S10 SafeCare dental specialist to rule out any serious health concerns.
