Dr. Rekha Karnam Srinivasan

Dr. Rekha Karnam Srinivasan (BHMS, F.Hom Psych UK., Dip. Mental Health & counseling SCARF (NIMHANS), Advanced training at IACH (Vithoulkas) Greece) is an Orator, writer, medical blogger, and teacher.

She speaks to s10 SafeCare on homeopathy and queries related to homeopathic medicines and treatment.

Homeopathy naturally provides a cure. It works with the body and supports its natural healing process. It corrects mental, physical, and spiritual well-being and as Hahnemann says prepares us for the higher purpose of existence.

Does Homoeopathy contain Steroids?

No, it doesn't contain anything in the material dose.

This is a serious Allegation of distracters of Homoeopathy. But you have to understand that Homoeopathic Medicines are not crude and there is no way to wrap up a steroid in it. Moreover, any substance when potentized loses its original qualities and it cannot have any side effects of steroids as expected.

It is very slow-acting, isn't it?

No, it can act very quickly and save lives in many instances, especially true in these corona times. All diseases are not of the same variety. Acute diseases or Fever, asthmatic episodes, etc are to be taken care of immediately and Homoeopathy does that. Fever will subside overnight or in a couple of days according to a person's Immunity, a cold cough takes 2-5 days for a cure, but Asthma or Knee pain may need a few months for complete cure although relief sets within a few days.

They say it is very safe and has no side effects, is that true?

Let us talk about the word' Safe'. Yes, it is safe for even unborn babies, pregnant women, and in fact, the most recommended medicine for weaklings. But Side effects depend on a few things. If advised by a Physician it's fine. If you take medicines on the Internet, it may become injurious over time. If you repeat doses just because the medicines remaining are wasted or for long periods without further consultation then you are inviting trouble.

Does Homoeopathy Cure all diseases?

No, Homoeopathy never cures any disease but induces one's system to fight the disease that is it increases immunity. Some common conditions may fail to respond at times but yes we can very well treat all kinds of diseases since the curability of that person can be ascertained only after treating him.

It cannot be taken along with Allopathic drugs, they say is it true?

Antibiotics nullify the effect of Homoeopathic remedies and treatment may have to be restructured. So, my advice to my Patients is to Continue all your diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy, even thyroid, and sleeping pills unless it has been tapered by your respective Physician with caution. But do not start treatment with an allopathic for Skin trouble, Respiratory trouble, fevers, and other mild problems without consulting your Homoeopath.

Should I stop taking Coffee and Onions?

If you drink Coffee moderately it's okay. Food items should be avoided initially if you are reacting to them or if your Homoeopath specifically asks you to do that.

What about Lab tests and Diagnoses?

The Homoeopath needs to treat you efficiently. But treatment is not completely dependent on the diagnosis alone. Individual history taking is essential.

Can I take Iron tablets and Vitamin Pills along with this?

Yes, It can be taken when recovering from surgery or a major breakdown. But after say a maximum of Three months or almost recovered state replace them with specific nutritious foods.

Homeopathy is against Surgery they say is it true?

No, Homoeopathy is not against any system of medicine that helps mankind. It's therapeutic, that is Medicine based treatment, and is not against any adjuvant, that is helping treatments like Physiotherapy, dietary corrections, lifestyle modifications, even Acupressure, etc go well along with Homoeopathy. But before starting any other Modes of treatment take advice from your Homoeopath.
