Dr. Pankaj Jain Chopra

Dr. Pankaj Jain Chopra of Chopra Dental Care talks to S10 Health on the importance of preventive dentistry for a healthier and confident smile.

1. A check-up allows your dentist to see if you have any dental problems and helps you keep your mouth healthy. Leaving problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it's best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether.

For example, tartar and plaque form in the mouth at different rates. Many a times I’ve seen a patient post-scaling for recall visit and a scheduled filling only to see tartar already forming on the teeth. I also have some patients that need to come in for a cleaning only every 12 months.

On the other hand, people who have taken great care of their teeth and gums and have gone years without any problems might need to see the dentist less often.

2. Dental procedures are viewed among the more expensive in terms of treatments costs. How would you advise health seekers on this?

The price for private treatment will often vary from dentist to dentist. This could be because one dentist has more experience in a certain field - like treating gum disease - or because they dedicate more time to each patient, or simply because their practice is in a different area. Dentists operate like small businesses, they have to pay for all their own equipment, their staff and their premises, so if they work in an expensive area - like in the middle of a town - they may have to pass this cost on through their charges.

On the other hand, data analyses showed that beneficiaries who used preventive dental care had fewer visits for expensive non-preventive procedures and lower dental expenses than beneficiaries who saw the dentist only for treatment of oral problems. Hence, we suggest and approve preventive dental measures and regular check-up visits to avoid expensive dental treatments. As the saying goes “Dentistry is not expensive, NEGLECT is ! “

3. What are the most frequent complaints that comes to you with?

The scenario in our country with very limited dental awareness among people makes DENTAL PAIN or TOOTHACHE the most frequent complaint in our centre which inadvertently leads to a Root Canal Treatment. And this comprises of almost 50-60% of the treatment happening at our dental practice. The remaining could be complaints of bad breath, sensitivity, tooth cavity, wisdom teeth issues and missing teeth problems.

4. How very well is Chopra Dental Care specified in Single Visit RCT?

With all the technological advancements and better knowledge about the subject today, our main objective at Chopra Dental Care is to give the patient a pain-free, time-saving, quicker dental appointment and  the single visit RCT helps us achieve that.

Although this may be achieved in most cases, there are certain situations during which a single-sitting RCT is not advisable. Hence, we carefully examine and diagnose with supportive x-rays if a patient’s infected tooth is suitable for single visit root canal or not.

5. Tell us more about the procedures at Chopra Dental Care.

At Chopra Dental we make dental visits pleasant and spread a confident smile on our clients. We continually strive to earn the loyalty of our patients providing the best quality dental care. We have been servicing our community through free dental camps, educational and awareness programs, preventive dentistry and do not miss any opportunity to give back to the society.

I don’t believe in a one man army in the dental field and hence we have specialist dentists to treat various dental problems. I head a dedicated dental team comprising of young dentists keeping pace with modern dentistry using the latest equipment & machinery. We offer a wide range of dental services which includes dental  Implants, Laser dentistry & Full mouth rehabilitation apart from all the other speciality services.

6. Share your views on the approach to dentistry in India.

India caters to the most successful and efficient dentist, dental surgeon and other dental professionals. India is broadly pacing with other part of the world in dentistry and Chopra Dental is marching ahead in that direction. Our dental clinic and equipment confirm to the highest international standards and we provide a level of dental diagnosis and care that is at par with the best in the world.

I believe in providing holistic and minimally invasive treatment to all my patients. Preventive dentistry is our ultimate goal towards every patient.
