Eye symptoms to watch for!

Whilst many of us opt for a complete body checkup regularly, how many of us get our eyes checked every year? When was the last time you had your eyes checked? If you have to think hard as to when your last eye appointment was, chances are that it’s been quite a long time. You may ask, my eyes feel fine, why should I have them checked? Yes, it is natural because it’s the way we human beings are wired. But, just because our eyes are seemingly healthy that doesn’t mean that they are.

We seldom visit an eye doctor unless something serious happens. We tend to ignore niggling problems with our eye-sight as signs of aging or tiredness. But sometimes those seemingly trivial little niggles can be a sign of some vision-threatening problem. So what can you do about it?  Well, listen to your body and its signals. What’s your body trying to tell you? Never brush off any early warning signs. Unusual eye symptoms that persist for more than a few days could be an indication that something is seriously wrong. Never ignore them. The following are certain eye symptoms that can indicate the need for emergency care.

  • Sudden loss of vision in one eye
  • Sudden hazy or blurred vision
  • Flashes of light or black spots and
  • Halos or rainbows around light
If you experience one or more of these symptoms it may not necessarily mean that you have glaucoma. However, it is important that you contact your eye doctor for a complete eye exam. There is always the possibility that these could be symptoms of glaucoma and hence should never be ignored. You always know your body better than anyone else. So, if you feel you have a persistent but seemingly trivial problem then it is worth that you schedule an immediate eye exam at one of S10 SafeCare network’s eye clinic. They are dedicated to quickly diagnosing and treating these problems because timing can sometimes make the difference between blindness and a great visual outcome.  Remember, a trip to an eye doctor may not only be sight-saving but potentially lifesaving!
