Why are my eyes so dry?

Dry eyes can happen when tears evaporate too quickly, or if the eyes produce too few tears.

Even when you’re happy, your eyes are full of tears. They provide moisture and lubrication to help you see and keep your eyes comfortable. Dry eyes are a common problem and it can affect one or both eyes, and it can lead to inflammation.

Dry eye syndrome can occur at any age, and in otherwise healthy people. It is more common with older age when the individual produces fewer tears. It is also more common in women than in men.

People with dry eye syndrome may experience a range of symptoms, including:

  1. A stinging or burning sensation and soreness in the eyes
  2. A feeling like sand in the eye
  3. Your eyes feel sensitive to smoke or wind
  4. Redness of the eyes
  5. Eye fatigue after reading, even for a short time
  6. Sensitivity to light
  7. Double vision
  8. Eyelids stick together when waking up
