Things You Need to Know About Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night's sleep, you might have sleep apnea.

The most common signs and symptoms of sleep apneas include:

  • Loud snoring
  • Gasping for air during sleep
  • Morning headache
  • Difficulty in falling asleep (insomnia)
  • Daytime sleepiness or fatigue
  • Mood disturbances
  • Night sweats
  • Irritability

Untreated sleep apnea may be responsible for poor performance in daily activities, such as at work and school, vehicle accidents, and academic underachievement in children and adolescents.

In mild cases of obstructive sleep apnea, conservative therapy may be all that is needed.
