Managing Your Alcohol Intake

Knowing how to drink wisely and safely is beneficial to your health, relationships, and bank account. Fortunately, there are a variety of options for controlling your alcohol use. It's difficult to keep track of how much alcohol you consume. Alcoholic beverages are available in a variety of strengths and serving sizes.Alcohol's effect on you can be influenced by your age, weight, gender, and even how you're feeling at the time. Follow official recommendations to determine how much alcohol you should consume.

How do you know if you've had too much to drink?

Some people have difficulty going a day without drinking or limiting the quantity of beverages they consume at any given moment. Low-level reliance on alcohol can progress over time until it becomes a serious problem.

Signs that you may have a drinking problem include:

  • You're drinking more than the  Guidelines indicate.
  • You or others are concerned about your drinking habits.
  • To get the same results, you'll need to drink more.
  • You have a strong desire for booze.
  • Your physical or mental health is being harmed by alcohol.
  • You don't feel in charge of your doctor's visits.
  • Your drinking is causing problems in your relationships and at work.
  • When you don't drink, you have bodily symptoms like shaking, sweating, anxiety, or vomiting.

Cutting back on your alcohol use has a lot of advantages.

Reducing your alcohol use can enhance your life in a variety of ways.

Cutting back on alcohol reduces your chances of feeling nervous or sad, as well as your chances of having long-term health concerns like cancer, heart disease, or liver cirrhosis (scarring). You might even lose weight, gain energy, and improve your appearance.

Drinking too much can harm your relationships by increasing your chances of arguing, decreasing your sex drive, alienating your friends, and providing a negative example for your children. Controlling your alcohol use might help you avoid embarrassment and improve your social life.

Finances: Excessive drinking is costly and can lead to troubles at work. Cutting back will help you perform better at work while also lowering your risk of an accident that could cost you your job.

Suggestions for weight loss

  • Set a drink limit for yourself and stick to it.
  • Remember to keep track of your beverages because a drink in a pub or restaurant may contain more than one regular drink.
  • To quench your thirst, sip water before you start drinking alcohol.
  • Slowly drink.
  • Eat something before and after you drink.
  • Finish your drink before starting another; if you keep adding to your drink, you'll lose track of how many you've had.
  • Between alcoholic drinks, try a non-alcoholic beverage.
  • Instead of sitting, get some exercise while you're drinking. Play pool or dance.
