Social media and Mental Health

Social media use can impact our mental health, while many of us enjoy staying connected on social media, excessive use can fuel feelings of anxiety, depression, isolation and bullying. Here’s how to modify your habits and improve your mood.

Set app time limits – Try to restrict yourself by setting time limits on your phone for particular apps, with this you can see how long you want to spend on social apps such as Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

Unfollow accounts that don’t make you feel good – If you’re comparing your body, house lifestyle to those perfect Instagram influencers and it doesn’t make you feel good then it’s time to unfollow them. Try to make sure what people & brands you follow on social media are aligned with what’s important to you.

Mute keywords that trigger you – If there’s something that makes you constantly feel drained or depressed, it’s okay to hide it from your timeline.

Be intentional on social media – If you’re feeling like social media is taking a toll on your mental health then setting a purpose for your social media time may help you out in the long run.

Remember to take breaks from your smartphone – Try to connect with people offline rather than being online always. This will allow your eyes to rest and will help you meet real people.
