What is Biomechanics?

The study of human motion is called biomechanics. The role of biomechanics in our lives today has gained significant importance as it helps to determine the causes of human injuries and how to prevent them from re-occurring. While this study is especially important for athletes and those involved in physical activities; biomechanics can also help any health seeker to live a fuller, injury free existence. And undoubtedly enhance the performance of golfers, cyclists and other sports persons.

Biomechanical analysis identifies the main cause of any injury or weakness in your body. When a specialist accurately understands the mobility of an injured person, he or she can advise the right strategies to aid them and prevent a relapse. In all, a biomechanical analysis is a scientific, objective and evidence-based service that formulates a tailored, effective program for each individual.

Biomechanics uses an advanced 3D analysis technology involving force and motion and data to carefully analyse how a human being moves in real-time, thus providing accurate measurements of movement. A 3D gait analysis can tell how a patient’s joints move, in three dimensions; the amount of force acting on their body and whether the muscles are strong enough to permit pain free movement.

Usually therapists and clinicians perform2D analyses which are not as thorough and provide minimum details. A 2D process can also have errors which lead to subtle abnormalities or injuries of the patient being overlooked and hence left undetected.

Further, a posture or a gait analysis as part of the 3D study helps the health seeker to perform activities more efficiently by a) identifying posture or movement-related problems in an injury affected person and b)improving skills like a patients sporting technique overall.A biomechanical analysis can help those who have issues with balance and even those who tend to fall frequently.

A biomechanical analysis can help you live better as it can assess and assist those with limb, knee, shinand heel pain and lower back pain- as well as those who have diseases like diabetes and its associated complications like neuropathy, amputations etc. Trauma - brain injuries, neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy can be checked better with a biomechanical analysis.

From conditions like difficulties with one’s walk, osteoarthritis, misaligned bones and foot abnormalities, and pre and post surgeries, you’ll find relief with a thorough biomechanical analysis.
