According to a new study, being self-aware may help you minimize your risk of obesity.
Researchers studied over 400 persons in New England and discovered that those who had higher levels of dispositional mindfulness (consciousness and attention to current feelings and thoughts) had lower abdominal fat. They were also less likely to be overweight than people with lower mindfulness skills.The researchers discovered that those with low degrees of self-awareness were 34 percent more likely to be obese and had a little more than a pound of abdominal fat than those with greater levels of self-awareness. The research was published in the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine on October 19th.
