Take control of your stress with these simple stress management tips!

Stress is an inevitable part of daily life in today’s super-hectic world.  While a little stress can be good for you - it adds flavour and challenge without which life would be mundane, dreary and unexciting.  However, dealing with too much stress is bad. It can zap your energy and wreak havoc on your physical and mental well-being. If you are stressed, swamped, agitated or overwhelmed, remember you are not alone. Practically speaking everybody experiences stress – there is no way getting away from it. While it may not be possible to eliminate stress in your life, you can seek out for ways to cope up with it.

Let us in this article discuss some of the simple yet effective tips to manage stress. Do take a note of them. Always keep them in your mind and most importantly apply them.

Exercise regularly: Physical activity is a kind of stress reliever. It pumps up your feel-good endorphins, creating an overall sense of well-being.

Get enough sleep and rest: If you don’t get good sleep your ability to manage stress is compromised. Hence, it is important that you get at least 7-8 hours of good sleep in the night. When you sleep well, you feel well and react well.

Talk your stress away: Talk to someone whom you feel you can trust and feel comfortable to open up with. It could be a friend, a relative or a family member. Just talking things out can ease and relieve the effects that stress is causing on you.

Learn the beauty of saying “No”: Learn to say “No” to additional and unimportant requests to reduce stress. It can be difficult at first. But it helps to set clear boundaries and people will soon start respecting you and your time.

Eat healthy: Watch your diet and make sure you eat a well-balanced diet. Remember, undernourished bodies are more susceptible to stress. A well-nourished body can cope up with the rigors of stress. Make it a point to start your day with a healthy breakfast followed by nutritious meals all through the day.

Stay clear of drugs, cigarettes and alcohol: You may think that you are taking these to alleviate stress. But the truth is it makes things worse. It may seem to provide a temporary relief but in the long run it will backfire on you.

Take up a hobby: Hobbies provide the much needed relief from the monotonous routine. You can take up hobbies like painting, sketching, dancing, gardening, playing a musical instrument, a photographic class or whatever that interests you. Take up something that you are passionate about.

Set aside a “Me Time” for relaxation: You can indulge in simple acts that could take away the stress out of you.  It could be watching a movie, listening to your favourite songs, taking your pet dog out for a walk, doing yoga or solving a crossword puzzle.

Managing stress is not that easy and at the same time it is not difficult either. If you put your mind into it and implement the things that you are comfortable with you can definitely conquer stress. The tips discussed above can help you make a great start towards managing everyday stress.
