How long does your period last?

What constitutes normalcy and what doenot?

Your menstrual health reveals a lot about your personality. Missed periods, ovulation timing and bleeding frequency are all indicators of your internal and reproductive health. Knowing what's normal and what's not when it comes to the menstrual cycle will help you assess your situation and seek help at the appropriate time before the problem worsens.

Mensuration process:

The uterus sheds its lining through the vaginal canal during menstruation, as we all know. The length of a regular menstrual cycle varies from one to seven days, depending on the lady. Periods alter throughout time in terms of timing, duration and flow and it can be difficult to tell the difference between normal and aberrant periods.

There's nothing wrong with your cycle being a few days longer or vice versa, but if you're suddenly having light or heavy periods, it could be a sign of underlying health problems you're unaware of.

Duration of the period:

Regular menstruation for an adult woman who does not take birth control or an IUD can last up to seven days.

The average period length for a girl between the ages of 10 and 19 is two to seven days but it can be longer or shorter on occasion.

Normal duration :

It's normal to have irregular periods from time to time but bleeding for more than seven days is not. Apart from that, it is abnormal if your period cycle lasts longer than 90 days or longer in a woman who is not receiving hormone treatment.

Factors affecting the normal duration:

  • Medical Disorders: Your period length is affected by a variety of medical conditions. Whether it's a change in the thickness of your uterine lining or the number of blood vessels in your uterus, both factors influence how long your bleeding lasts. Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning drugs, PCOS, hypothyroidism, uterine cancer, endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage, and pelvic inflammatory disease are just a few of the conditions that might influence your periods.
  • Menorrhagia, which happens when blood loss exceeds 80 mL every period, is another abnormal illness that many women faces.
  • Menorrhagia's menstrual flow is quite heavy to be precise.
